Regularly reading this blog will surely remember
my previous note about Opera Mini Proxy . For those who do not remember, in short: this is a great opportunity to save traffic where it
costs very much .
Opera Mini Proxy (also known as Opera Mini Proxy Daemon or ompd) passes http traffic through opera mini servers, where content is compressed several dozen times (to optimize display on mobile devices). Before ompd, it was possible to use opera mini on desktops using j2me emulators, which, of course, is not at all convenient. ompd allowed to download compressed content in almost any browser (working at the same time as a local proxy server).
The good news is that
ompd can now be installed as a Chrome extension (and other browsers based on the Chromium source code). First, the extension is much easier than the original ompd, which requires the Python interpreter to work. Secondly, you do not need to constantly keep the second window open and monitor the proxy settings. How it looks, you can see in the
screenshot , and the details - under the cut.
For active users gprs / 3g recommend using instead of Chrome
Iron . This browser is based on the same source code (Chromium), and the difference between them is that Iron does not send usage statistics to Google (traffic is the same!), Doesn’t crawl the web for search prompts (still traffic), and also doesn’t updated without demand (even more traffic). Ideal for the mobile Internet, if you do not need to download heavy content, but just look at the mail / read rss / and so on.
')
Step-by-step instruction:
1. Install
Iron (the
portable version is even more suitable for mobile use).
2. Install the
extension .
3. Click on the button in the form of two Opera logos on the toolbar.
4. Enter the desired URL.
5. It opens already through the Opera Mini server, saving your traffic and money.
Have a good surfing!
PS: The special charm lies in the use of ompd via
iodine in “closed” wi-fi networks ;-)
