In the US, released an updated Commodore 64

True, the characteristics of the updated Commodore 64, called the Commodore 64x (C64x), have nothing to do with the Commodore 64 itself. The general is just the design, the form factor, so to speak. This is not “an old song in a new way,” but a “new song in an old way.” Externally, the Commodore 64x is almost no different from its authoritative ancestor. Is that the plugs we see modern, yes Blu-Ray drive looks a bit strange on the old case.

But the configuration is quite modern - a dual-core Atom 1.8 GHz processor, plus 2 gigabytes of RAM, the NVIDIA Ion2 graphics subsystem and the same Blu-Ray drive. Manufacturers have also equipped their offspring with ports such as USB (4 USB 2.0 ports), as well as HDMI, Ethernet, VGA and DVI-D. There is also a PS2 mouse port, plus a 3.5 mm audio output.

Naturally, the focus was on ensuring that the case of this PC fully corresponded to the case of the original Commodore 64. According to the developers, the case is 100% consistent with what it was before. Even the sound made by the keys when pressed is the same as it was many years ago.

It is clear that such computers are not made for connoisseurs of ultra-modern devices, but for those who are nostalgic at the sight of rare devices. It is worth noting that in the United States, where the sale of Commodore 64x will be launched, there is a rather wide market for such devices - after all, the first Commodore 64 was very popular there. In the CIS countries, they were also distributed, but sales will start much later, if at all.

Unfortunately, the date of sales is still unknown. The developers promise that the price will not be high, according to some reports the cost of this PC will be $ 500. Indeed, the price here is not worth raising - nostalgia is nostalgic, but hardly anyone will overpay a hundred or two dollars, especially since computers of a similar configuration are not so expensive. Oh yeah, Commodore USA releases this device (their website is pretty, styled as “those times”). Honestly, I don’t even know if this company is related to the first device, or, perhaps, the Commodore 64 developer founded it. In general, we are waiting.

UPD. According to the information provided by user ave , we get an interesting situation. It turns out that Commodore USA has nothing to do with the creators of the first Commodore. In the spring of 2010, a certain Barry Altman founded Commodore USA and agreed to license this brand with the Dutch company Commodore Gaming. Then it turned out that another company owned the rights to the brand - Commodore Licensing BV, a division of Asiarim. I had to renegotiate. Now, it seems, everything is fine.

In addition, the supply of the company all the time delayed. First, the start of sales was scheduled for the summer, then - for the pre-Christmas time, now here - "from 2011".
