Good news for those who follow the fate of the screens of electronic books and their manufacturers.
There is such a hybrid display 3Qi company Pixel Qi . It is almost E-ink (you can read it with the backlight turned off due to the rear mirror) and almost LCD (the included backlight turns the screen into a regular notebook). The following photo shows a netbook with a 3Qi display installed, the backlight is off .

Until now, Pixel Qi screens were just a concept proof. Now, as reported by fcenter.ru, Pixel Qi has found a display manufacturer.
Pixel Qi's displays barely make way for the market. But they pierce it, and this is good. The company was organized in January 2008, after the departure of Mary Lou Jepsen, chief technologist at the non-profit organization OLPC, to “free swimming”. The 3Qi displays were derived from the first generation of displays for “student” laptops, the main feature of which was the ability to work in monochrome mode in direct sunlight. This made it possible not only to work comfortably in bright external lighting, but also saved battery power, since the display backlight was excluded from the food chain of batteries.
The first success of the company Pixel Qi could celebrate this year. One of the Taiwanese manufacturers began to produce 10.1-inch screens of the company in small quantities. The screens are designed for self-replacement of standard panels in a number of notebook models, but their price is quite high - $ 275. In addition, the batches of screens are obviously small, since the first tablet on such a panel, the Indian “Adam” from Notion Ink, was sold out in the blink of an eye. Now only models with a regular LCD are available for ordering. By the way, a model with a 3Qi screen is more expensive than a model with a regular screen for about $ 200, all other things being equal. Innovation is not cheap.
Fortunately, Pixel Qi was able to convince one of the world's largest manufacturers of small-format panels, CPT (Chunghwa Picture Tubes), that their displays were promising. As the head of the company states in his online diary, the negotiations begun in the summer turned into a partnership agreement in the fall. At CES 2011, partners will show a 7-inch 3Qi panel with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels, and during 2011 they will introduce two more new screen sizes. First of all, a small format for smartphones.
Mass production of 7-inch screens is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2011. Pixel Qi's cost-effective transreflective displays will be installed on tablet PCs and e-books. In addition to the reflective monochrome mode without backlight, 3Qi displays can operate in normal color mode with backlight. The possibility of hybrid modes will allow you to read books by the pool on the same device during the day and watch movies before bedtime.

But due to the fact that habrauys put + only post, and habrabydlo puts - in karma (+1 against -15 habrabydla already), I will share the last post about the upgrade of the laptop video card (while karma allows more) and more of my postswill not. Published will be deleted. Sorry, butthis attitude is enough.
