In the west, this service has been around for quite some time - for example, the Lufthansa company
offers its customers access to the Network and mobile communications in general already on all the company's flights. Apparently, the domestic airline Aeroflot decided to offer its customers the same service, for which it began to cooperate with the MegaFon company. Initially, mobile communications will only be available from the Mstislav Keldysh Airbus A321 airliner, after which, if the “trial period” is successfully completed, passengers will be able to use mobile communications on other company aircraft.
Until the end of January 2011, the connection will be free because it is still a test period. From February tariffs will be announced. It is worth noting that in addition to voice mobile communication, SMS, GPRS-Internet will also be available. Unfortunately, the approximate connection speed has not been announced, and it would be a pity that it would be interesting to find out whether the connection speed to the Network by mobile communication onboard the ship meets the “ground” standards.
By the way, the connection will start to work only on reaching a 3-kilometer height, which, apparently, is connected with the requirement to turn off all electronic devices during takeoff and landing.

Aeroflot also announced that in 2011, at the beginning, mobile communications will be available on the Airbus A330, which is a transcontinental airliner, with a range of up to 5 thousand kilometers.
According to the management of Aeroflot, they didn’t deal with similar projects before because the company was not sure about the demand for mobile communications in the air. Only now, after signing a contract with MegaFon, it was decided to check whether or not a passenger needs mobile communications. The problem also lies in the fact that the equipment for such a connection is very expensive. However, all obstacles are overcome, and the technology is being tested.
Unfortunately, the connection speed to the web leaves much to be desired. Nevertheless, GPRS-Intetnet is not at all like the broadband connection offered by Lufthansa. But the first step is the hardest ...
