Last week , Chrome users were given the opportunity to “donate” their tabs opened in Chrome to distribute one million dollars in charitable donations. The Chrome team was very impressed with the support and participation, and is now pleased to share with you the results.
The Chrome community responded with overwhelming enthusiasm and, acting together, opened 60,599,541 tabs for charity.
Each user chose what he would support with his tabs. From this depended on the distribution of donations of one million dollars. Accordingly, we are pleased to make the following donations on behalf of the Chrome community:
$ 245,278 for planting trees in the Brazilian Atlantic Forest, which is in danger of extinction;
$ 232,791 for the provision of clean water , namely, the construction of freshwater wells in developing countries;
112,078 dollars for the construction of housing by volunteers for poor families in Latin America;
$ 267,336 for meningitis vaccination to combat outbreaks in Africa;
$ 142,518 for books to be published by local writers and illustrators to be created and donated to schools and libraries in Asia and Africa.
We will make donations at the end of the year, and the charities that work with us are already planning to spend funds from Chrome for a Cause for 2011. Learn more about how your donation will be used by visiting our partner sites:
We are pleased to be able to connect Chrome users with these important matters around the world - so much so that we are already thinking about future Chrome for a Cause projects in the future. ')
You can leave the extension you have installed if you want to hear about future similar projects. We’ll post all the details on how to get involved in the Chrome blog.
