Some political activists, non-profit organizations and businessmen are forced to use the multi-level
Tor anonymizer in their work. For them, the good news: now you do not need to bother with the
program settings . You can use a home router with hardwired support for cryptography and Tor at the hardware level. Traffic from home devices will automatically go through secure channels - no manipulations are required at all with the operating system.
The firmware for the cheap
Buffalo Technology router was created by the activists of the Tor project as part of the
OpenWrt project, which is developing open source software for network equipment.
The firmware allows you to flexibly manage traffic: allow only selected packet types, for example, only VoIP, over secure channels.
The device with the new firmware is already testing a few dozen volunteers. If the tests are successful, Buffalo can release a commercial version of the modified router (although in any case, the firmware can be downloaded separately and installed by yourself). Part of the proceeds from the sale of the device will go to support non-commercial projects Tor and OpenWrt. In addition, an increase in the number of nodes in the peering network of proxy servers will make the Tor network more reliable and fast. Governments or security services will not be able to cover it in one go.
