Microsoft has stopped MS Office authentication

Starting October 27, 2006, Microsoft performed a mandatory license check of the Office XP and 2003 software packages when working with update sites. That is, to download the update, you had to pass an authenticity check as part of the Office Genuine Advantage (OGA) program. Since April 2006, such a check has been mandatory for users in Russian.

Last week, without any public explanation, Microsoft simply shut down Office Genuine Advantage. At first glance it looks like a technical bug (there are dead links on the site that lead to nowhere), but yesterday MS representatives officially confirmed in an interview with ZDNet that the program is over - no one will check the legality of the Office. A mention of this also appeared in the knowledge base ( 917999 ).

If you click on the link for which the MS Office license was previously checked, then you will be transferred to the main page of the MS Windows site. The page no longer exists (it can be viewed in the archive ).

But the new page of the Genuine Microsoft Software software authentication program works only with the Windows verification link, and the Office verification link leads to nowhere.

Microsoft representatives explain the termination of the program that it has completed its task. “Many users around the world have been able to find out if their copy of Microsoft Office is genuine. The Office Genuine Advantage program has served its purpose and therefore we decided to stop it, ”a Microsoft representative said. He also added that no one is going to cancel the activation of Windows and the Windows Genuine Advantage program.
