In one of the US states, teachers and students cannot be friends on Facebook.

Recently, the realities of ordinary life in many regions are being transferred to the Internet. In particular, in most US schools, teachers are strictly forbidden to make personal connections with schoolchildren (meaning not only amorous, so to speak, relationships, but also simple friendship). This is done in order to minimize possible “non-statutory” relations between teachers and students. Now in one of the states, in Massachusetts, teachers are forbidden to be friends with schoolchildren and on the social networking site Facebook.

It is not known whether this will save pupils from teachers and vice versa, but more recently the ban has been enforced by law. Now asking for friends on Facebook or even accepting friend requests is prohibited for students and teachers. It is worth noting that lawmakers seek to minimize the threat of non-statutory relations between teachers and students, although there are none in Massachusetts.

I wonder if legislators are familiar with the expression “forbidden fruit is sweet”? Perhaps it would be better not to focus on a problem that is practically non-existent, and in such a strange way?

Note that teachers can communicate with their wards on the Web, but only for the purpose of sending students all sorts of educational documents, including lectures and other useful materials. But "friends", even if virtually, is prohibited. In general, they seem to want to do better, but hardly what will come of it, apart from a multitude of violations. I wonder, by the way, does such a move comply with the legislation of the USA itself? One thing is to publish an order on schools, and others are a general law, in which, it seems, there is no prohibition of this kind, especially on Facebook.

And it is also interesting - how quickly in the CIS countries they will begin to “introduce” the experience of their colleagues, which has already happened more than once or twice. Wait and see. Nevertheless, one would like to hope that such a “useful” experience will not be adopted by us.
