Dinosaur Tablet Review - Compaq TC1000

After the advent of the iPad, the market for gadgets was filled with an abundance of various imitative constructions, and more often Chinese non-power hardware. However, not many people know that tablet PCs were already released before Apple. Despite that level of technology, very interesting devices were produced. I want to tell you about one of them. His name is Compaq TC1000.

Description

Model TC1000 was released by Compaq (now a piece of HP) in the distant 2003 year. In fact, it was not quite a tablet, it is a hybrid device, because There was an opportunity to attach a keyboard to it and use it as a regular laptop. This idea, IMHO, it would be nice to apply to modern devices of this type.

In good loving hands

The tablet came to me this summer and was already in an incomplete set (there was no keyboard attached), but it had on board all 768 possible megabytes of RAM.

Here is what it looks like now:

And a number of additional buttons on the case. The red button in the depth of the hole symbolizes ctrl + alt + del (I suspect that ctrl + alt + del passed out and windows are not accidentally together).

As you can see from the photos, my iron friend has seen a lot in his lifetime. But despite his tatty appearance, he always cheerfully and without error performs all the tasks assigned to him.

But what can be done on it, using the included software:

Workaholic on vacation

Today I use this tablet mainly as an e-book and gradually replace them with a laptop. Here's how it looks from the outside:

Iron is enough for programming and office tasks. Unfortunately, the video is compressed quite hard in H.264 (and you can watch old movies), but this is rather a plus, because nothing distracts from work. The device is hot enough. This is palpable if you keep it on your lap. But at the same time, in the heat above +40, he worked and did not complain, only quietly rustled through the cooler.

Afterword

In my opinion, windows is not at all suitable for such devices and in the future I would like to replace it with something more worthwhile. Attempting to install linux was not successful. More precisely ... it did not work to get the sensor matrix driver (fpit), and without it all the advantages

devices don't seem to be such an advantage. I think to try Android or Meego / Maemo on it, but so far my hands have not reached.
