
Facebook announced the first
Hacker Cup 2011 , which will be "an annual competition for hackers from around the world in algorithmic programming."

explained that “hacker” is the best compliment for a programmer. According to him, hacking means developing something very quickly.
The competition will be held in three online rounds, after which on March 11, 2011 the final will be held at the central office of Facebook. Registration begins December 20, and all three rounds will be held in January.

To begin with, a qualifying round will be held, which will begin on January 7, 2011 at 0:00 UTC and end on January 10, 2011 at 0:00 UTC. During these 72 hours, participants must solve at least one of the three proposed tasks in order to be admitted to the first round.
The first online round of January 15-16 will consist of three three-hour sub-rounds at different times of the day. Than pass on the best one of each subraund.
The second online round of January 22 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm UTC will determine the 300 best players who will receive the official Hacker Cup t-shirt. Well, the top 25 hackers from this round will receive free tickets to California and accommodation on the campus Facebook (Palo Alto).
