Lego constructor predicts solar eclipses

Apple engineer Andrew Carol (Andrew Carol) with the help of Lego created an analogue of the anti-kiter mechanism (dated 150-100 BC). This is a unique gear system with a ratio of 254: 19, which simulates the movement of the Sun and the Moon relative to fixed stars.

Like the ancient Greek mechanical computer, a copy of Lego is able to predict lunar and solar eclipses with high accuracy.

Andrew Carol used 1500 Lego Technic parts, the work took 30 days.

In 1901 a strange mechanism was found on the sunken ancient Greek ship. Until recently, its purpose and way of working remained a mystery to some extent.

Only in 2006, after processing the artifact using computed tomography, were scientists able to read 95% of the inscriptions contained in the mechanism (about 2000 Greek characters). Only because of this was able to understand how the device works.

The gear system used a differential gear , which, as it was believed, was not invented earlier than the XVI century, and the level of miniaturization and complexity are comparable to the mechanical clocks of the XVIII century.

According to some experts, the value of the anti-Kite mechanism for humanity is very high. From the point of view of the history of civilization, it is more important than the painting "Mona Lisa".
