Samsung has released a new type of flexible AMOLED-display

Yesterday, one of the managers of Samsung, Samsung Mobile Display (SMD), showed a new development of the company - a flexible AMOLED-display, whose thickness is only 0.2 mm. This is a very interesting development, since on the basis of the Samsung model it is going to produce TVs, electronic "newspapers" and much more. Indeed, such a display is suitable for almost any gadget.

The display is rightly called flexible, because it can sag in any direction, without prejudice to itself. As mentioned above, the thickness of this display is only 0.2 mm, but Samsung says that it can create even thinner displays, with a thickness of only 0.1 mm. Such toshchina, by the way, at a usual sheet of format A4. How long have science fiction writers been writing about such displays? It seems that about five years ago there was hardly anyone who seriously believed in the success of the enterprise in creating such displays.

Unfortunately, the same TVs based on flexible AMOLED displays developed by Samsung Mobile Display will be available no earlier than 2013-2014. According to the company's management, this is due to the fact that the industrial introduction of development requires a considerable time - the production base requires a very significant transformation, because it is a completely different type of display than those that have been produced to date.

Plus, the company is going to present (when it is not known) a full-fledged electronic reader based on the same display, which will actually look like an ordinary newspaper. That is why the company called the future device "electronic newspaper".

Let's hope that the development will not really disappear over time somewhere in a long series of forgotten concepts and technologies, and indeed, will appear on the market as part of any devices, at least in a couple of years.
