At Microsoft carefully watched Harry Potter.

In one of the parts of the film about the great wizard Harry, an amusing device was shown.

This device is a clock, on which, instead of the dial, various places were indicated (home, work, school, strip club, ...), and instead of arrows - family members' avatars. On such a watch one could see where each of the family is at the moment.

Today, wandering through the Microsoft Research website, I rested on one of the ideas developed there ...

Watch & quot; WhoWhere & quot;

HoursWhere (Whereabouts Clock). The clock is designed for the kitchen wall and shows the whereabouts of family members based on mobile phone data. When a person's phone is turned on, it sends an SMS to the device when a person crosses the boundaries of an established zone (for example, "school"). Setting up zones is necessary to carry out only once, when installing software. In addition, if a person is outside the established zone, but still wants to make itself known, he can send a text explaining where he is and what he drinks. This message will be displayed next to the person's avatar.

In addition to the home option, there is a more advanced office option. It was the office version that the researchers used in their laboratory.

At the moment, GdeKto is just a research prototype and its release as a serial product will depend on the results of the research.

By the way, the laboratory, which investigates "Where" is located in Cambridge. So they couldn't hear about Harry. I could not find the date of the device idea, but from the existing publications about the project, only some article in CHI2006 is confirmed.

So here, not only Apple can be an example to follow.
