Microchips will be implanted in all puppies in the Netherlands
All Dutch dog breeders will be required to officially register their pets, as well as implant identification chips on them, said Dutch Agriculture Minister Henk Bleker. The new position will come into force in the summer of 2011.
“It should be the norm to ask for registration documents when you buy a dog, just like when you buy a car,” said Blaker.
The purpose of this provision is to identify all dogs with microchips for 10 years. ')
The Minister hopes that this measure will reduce the number of cases of "illegal breeding" of dogs, and also greatly facilitate the search for the owner of the dog if necessary.
From myself I will add that the problem of “self-identification” of dogs in the Netherlands is almost absent due to the absence of stray animals. In addition, the vast majority of dogs and cats in the country already have implanted microchips.Found animal (or bird) can be easily and quickly identified using a special service ;There is a similar service for livestock .
To implant a microchip at the vet costs an average of 45 euros.
