We learn iPhone to extract addresses-passwords from printed materials

Many of you have probably heard about ABBYY Business Card Reader - a program that allows you to quickly create a contact by reading the information from a business card. And what if you do not need to keep contact? What if you just need to go to a web page whose address is on a big billboard, or, say, call the hotline number on the back of your credit card?

You don’t feel like entering data manually, and using BCR in such cases is not very convenient - it was invented for another, so our guys from the mobile department developed a small clip of three iPhone applications under the general name ABBYY Mobile OCR Utilities specifically for such situations. Among them are ABBYY MailGrabber , ABBYY PhoneGrabber and ABBYY LinkGrabber .

How it works? The first thing you need to take a picture of the source of information, after which the program will take up his analysis. Each application is designed to search in the image information of its type - email addresses, phone numbers and links to websites, respectively. When the information is discovered and recognized, you can do with it whatever you want: use it for its intended purpose (call / write a letter / follow the link), send it in a letter or SMS, add it to the contact book. Or you can copy it to the clipboard and use it in any other applications that allow you to paste it wherever you need it.

The convenience of these utilities is not limited by the lack of manual entry of information into the phone and speed of work. This is also a very simple interface that will help you easily master the work with the programs.

And soon in the Mobile OCR Utilities line an address recognition application will appear. The program will be able to extract addresses from any printed text and find them on Google Maps. The address can also be edited, saved to the contact book or sent via email or SMS.
