Samsung Super PLS Displays

IPS technology (it is the basis of the LCD) for 14 years. It was developed by Hitachi back in 1996, after which it improved consistently in 1998, 2002 and 2004. However, despite all the improvements, there has long been a need for a qualitative breakthrough in this area. Samsung's new Super PLS (Super Plan to Line Switching) display technology allows them to significantly outperform all existing IPS counterparts — by 100 percent in viewing angle and 10 percent in brightness.

It is also noteworthy that SPLS-displays at the moment can have resolution up to WXGA (Wide eXtended Graphics Array) - i.e. up to 1366x768 pixels. Moreover, their production was 15 percent cheaper.

The uniqueness of Super PLS technology is protected by more than 30 patents owned by Samsung Mobile Display. Mass production of panels will begin in the first quarter of 2011. The screens are designed primarily for smartphones and tablets.
