Another type of
SMS fraud based on social engineering has surfaced today.
The situation develops according to the following scenario:
- from a certain number (not a short, simple cellular number, in the case of which I am talking about - “+7 916 100 09 73”) SMS start coming;
- SMS with the same text - specifically “the value of the volume sensor is above the norm”. It seems to be a harmless text, suggesting that someone somewhere was mistaken and hammered in the number of the victim in some kind of notification system;
- But! SMS comes a day, two, three every 10-15 minutes, which with 100% probability brings the phone owner to white heat
What will the owner of the phone do in this situation? Call back or send an SMS with the text “how much is possible!”, Right? I think yes. So either after a call to this number (at that end - silence), or after a text message in his direction (unanswered, of course) the result is minus 500 rubles in the account!

UPD: it means that the situation is clarified, I’m probably gathering all the bad karma from the forum, but I still have the courage to say it is:
- this is not a sms fraud, I raised a false alarm by making a hasty conclusion
- the number is really a sensor. It really is a volume sensor. This sensor is installed in a car that is parked in the open, with a drop in temperature, the volume of air in the car really decreased, and the sensor began to honestly spam the girl. whose car it was there I didn’t find out, I think it doesn’t matter :)
- It turned out this way - the company that was engaged in the installation called back the girl and apologized. maybe they read Habr, then everyone present - thanks!
- I can’t say where about 500 rubles have disappeared from the account - the “victim” hasn’t ordered the details yet. but definitely not for the reasons described in the topic. there is a coincidence match.
sorry :)
