Having got on my favorite site in terms of the inexplicable site TUT.BY, I noticed the “Make homepage” link at the top. This term is very popular among Russian-language sites, although its translation is not so unequivocal. When you open the settings page, you can see that the original term sounds like Home Page, literally “Home Page”.
I can not explain the reason for such a translation by Russian journalists, but in some browsers there is still a house icon when you click on it, you go to your home site or start page if you are familiar with Russian.
Perhaps the houses somehow do not fit into the house from Studio Lebedev, which uses the icon to go to the home page of the site and from this the term “Home” has become more popular than others possible. Or is the runet not yet home?

My other favorite site, Yandex, is also wondering how to translate the term Home Page. On the page “How to make Yandex the start page” you can notice a wonderful thing - the translation differs from the type of browser you use:
Internet Explorer 4:
Home page
Internet Explorer 5 and above:
Home page (Start page)
Netscape:
Home page (my comment is not in the description)
Mozilla 1.6:
Home page
Firefox 1.0.7-2.0:
Home Page (home page)
Opera 8.01–9.00:
Home page

Although, if we are still celebrating two new years, maybe such nonsense should not be paid attention to by the developers of websites?
