Today, Exler's blog has a curious
post , where you can learn about the appetites of the new owner of ICQ.
As you know, recently the company DST (now - “Mail.ru Group”) bought one of the most popular services - ICQ. The company also runs a number of other popular projects, such as Mail.ru and Odnoklassniki.
So, this office continues the long-launched struggle with alternative customers. Only if earlier AOL by changing the protocol made certain customers inoperable, now the owners of the service are beginning to demand money from the owners of unofficial clients for each user.

It all started with a mobile client Nimbuzz. The
program’s blog describes:
ICQ not working on Nimbuzz? But we are aware of that.
For the ICQ community on Nimbuzz. It was a wise to use a copyright law on Nimbuzz.
If someone does not know the language, then briefly: ICQ is no longer supported by the Nimbuzz client; we cannot change the situation; The guys from ICQ to continue to support the client offered to sign an agreement, according to which we will have to pay for each user who uses ICQ in our client.
Most likely, they will soon get to QIP. On the one hand, it will be interesting to observe the course of events. On the other hand, a huge number of ICQ users through QIP (and, probably, other clients) will face problems. Although it seems to be no stranger :)
It is also interesting how the fate of Mail.RU Agent will develop. After all - it seems to me - it is not at all advisable to keep two “one’s” messaging services. As they say, time will tell.
And for fans of Jabber there is a reason for joy. After all, this is another reason to change ICQ to something else like Jabber.
