About navigation on sites

Decided to consider the concept of navigation in relation to the information architecture of the site.

And so what happened

First, the definitions. By information architecture is understood the following:
Information architecture deals with the principles of information systematization and navigation in order to help people more successfully find and process the data they need.

Definition from an interview with Louis Rosenfeld. Full text of the interview
Wikipedia gives the following definition:
Information architecture (often abbreviated to “IA”) is a set of methods and techniques for structuring information (knowledge or data). Most often, the term “information architecture” (hereinafter IA) is used in web development, but sometimes it can be used, for example, in the context of programming.

But even these definitions are not definitive. In the book Information Architecture for the World Wide Web, the first chapter is fully devoted to the problem of the definition of the concept of IA.

Regarding the definition of navigation, regarding the information architecture of the site, everything is also blurry.

Wikipedia gives only a definition of the concept of navigation, there is a link to an article called information navigation, but the article has not yet been created.

Navigation means the following:
Navigation (lat. Navigatio , from lat. Navigo - sailing on a ship):
1. Navigation, shipping
2. The period of time in the year when navigation is possible according to local climatic conditions
3. The main section of navigation, which develops theoretical justifications and practical techniques for driving ships

There is a definition of the concept of information navigation - the process of driving a user according to logically related data, but there is no deciphering of the concept.
After wandering through the resources and rummaging in the books, I found some materials on the topic of navigation on the site.

Here that while found

There is a built-in navigation on the site, it is of three types

- global navigation
- local navigation
- contextual navigation

Global navigation will always help answer the question "Where am I?".

Local navigation - prompt "What else is there?".

Contextual navigation - will help to find "What else can you find out regarding the information on the page?".

The figure illustrates where these navigation zones are located (discussion project)

I also read an article by Kondraty Yermolin (Anima company) in the magazine “Advertising navigator”
The article provides the following classification

Types of site navigation
- menu
- string path
- Auxiliary navigation (standard icons)
- incident navigation
- contextual navigation
- intertext navigation (hypertext)

Types of internal navigation
- hierarchical
- search navigation
- faceted navigation

Rubricators
- page
- alphabetical rubricator
- typical or class headings
- parametric rubricator
- tagged heading

After reading this article and the scheme proposed in it, many questions arose.
It turns out that navigation on the site is equal to the classification of information on the site, and for some reason, the search on the site is also a navigation element, although maybe my comments are not entirely correct, I just always believed that the search is a separate element on the site that performs not only the function navigation.

Can someone find a more detailed definition of navigation on the site or classification, as well as materials on this topic? Share it.
