ICANN intends to radically change the Internet landscape.
According to
PCWorld , the regulator plans to register up to thousands of new top-level domains (TLD) per year. Canon and IBM have already announced their desire to acquire their own TLDs.
The final version of the new TLD application guidebook is planned to be published on the website
on November 9 , and accepted at the next conference, which will be held from
December 5 to
10 in Cartagena. If everything goes smoothly, then in May it will be possible to begin to execute the adopted decisions and the first corporate domains will be registered in
2012 .
The cost of organizing your own top-level domain is now estimated at
$ 185 thousand. Of course, ICANN will make every effort so that each company can acquire its TLD.
To date, many interesting questions remain at the discussion stage: will any company be allowed to buy a .moscow domain or will it be owned only by the Moscow government? If the .apple domain is registered, will they approve the application for .aple? What are the requirements for potential owners?
