Vendors will release smartbooks on Chrome this month.

According to DigiTimes, citing its sources, the largest vendors will release smartbooks on Google Chrome OS this month, while Google also plans to launch a laptop on Chrome under its brand (according to a strategy similar to the Nexus One smartphone).

It is expected that the laptop on Google’s Chrome will be manufactured by Inventec on the ARM platform. The volume of the first batch will not exceed 60-70 thousand units. Sales will not be made through retail chains.

The same sources noted that after Google announced its laptop on Chrome, Acer and Hewlett-Packard would follow the lead and launch their products to test the market’s reaction, but not earlier than December. Products from both vendors will be manufactured by Quanta Computer.
