The well-known company Pixar, which creates beautiful animated ribbons, has developed a cloud service for its
Renderman technology. Cloud Renderman is a service that allows you to upload raw materials for rendering to the cloud and get the calculated results using Pixar technologies in a short time. All calculations are carried out by the Renderman service. This offer is positioned as a starting point for small studios who cannot afford large render farms.
During the PDC10 conference, Chris Ford - business director of Pixar studio demonstrated the work of the cloud service. He uploaded raw materials from Maya 3D to the cloud, chose the required capacities in his account and got the calculated result in a short time.

The service will allow you to flexibly choose capacities and calculate costs depending on the needs of users.
According to Chris Ford, RenderMan technology is widely used in modern industry. Each CG-cartoon since the release of “Toy Story“ in 1995 was rendered using RenderMan.
Pixar Studio has chosen Windows Azure as a base for its service. At the moment, the cloud version of RenderMan is not yet available to the mass consumer; the demonstration was proof-of-concept. However, Pixar plans to launch Cloud RenderMan in the near future.
