International Animation Day was established on the initiative of the French branch of the International Animated Film Association (ASIFA) in 2002 in honor of the 100th anniversary of the public presentation of the first animation technology.

On this significant day - October 28, 1892 - in Paris, the artist and inventor Emile Reynaud called the audience to a new, hitherto unseen spectacle - the “optical theater” (theater optique). For the first time, a talented inventor publicly demonstrated his praxinoscope, which showed moving pictures. Now we would call this event the birth of the prototype of modern cartoons, and this date is now considered the beginning of the era of animated films.

In many countries, festive events begin a few days before the designated date. On the eve of the International Day of Animation, professionals and fans of animated films from all over the world exchange programs of their films and hold premieres and best-seller screenings for the audience who are grateful for a whole year waiting for this event. Now similar cartoon sessions are being held simultaneously in 104 countries of the world!
Today, the technical capabilities of animation are amazing - these are two-dimensional animation (traditional and digital), three-dimensional animation, animation of Flash, Stop Motion and VFX.
The Soviet Union in its time did not lag behind the world movement for the creation of animated films - in June 1936, the Soyuzmultfilm studio was founded in Moscow.
