New York selects Microsoft cloud services for 100,000 employees

New York City is signing a 5-year contract with Microsoft for the use of cloud office technology for 100,000 employees of municipal institutions. This was announced today, October 20th. The contract was announced by New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg and Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer at a special event.

New York will use Office 365 for its jobs, which was introduced yesterday . Some employees will receive basic capabilities (so-called deskless) - work with mail, others will be able to work with a full set of services. All employees will be divided into three categories, according to the number of used services.

New York will save about $ 50 million over five years. The city plans to save on software (cloud versions will be used) and storage of some data that will be placed in the Microsoft cloud.
