report of the International Telecommunication Union, the number of Internet users will exceed 2 billion by the end of 2010. Based on current estimates, about 6.9 billion people live on Earth. This means that by the end of the year, almost 30% of the world's population will be online.
According to ITU estimates, this year the increase in the number of Internet users will be 226 million people, 162 million of whom will be from developing countries. Despite the rapid growth in the number of Internet users in developing countries, they still have a long way to go to catch up with developed countries.
By the end of 2010, there will be 71% of the population of developed countries and 21% of the population of developing countries online. At the regional level, in Europe there will be 65% of the population online, in North and South America - 55%, in the Asia-Pacific region - 21.9%, while in Africa - only 9.6%.
