In May 2007, Microsoft introduced the unusual “coffee table” to the world. With items of furniture his only kindred form. The novelty, called Microsoft Surface , was an interactive multitouch-table.

It would be an unforgivable exaggeration to say that the Microsoft Surface is just an expensive 30-inch multitouch table, the capabilities of which do not differ from the capabilities of the multitouch netbooks, laptops and panels currently on sale.

Microsoft Surface has shown people new principles and ways to interact with the digital reality. Now it is even difficult to imagine what the developers will create on this basis, what the computers of tomorrow will look like. One can only fantasize what applications Microsoft Surface will find and how the technologies used in the device will develop. But, despite the fact that the new product was liked by both users and critics, for a number of different reasons (the main one, of course, was the high price), Surface turned out to be a piece product.

This year, the Japanese corporation Sony introduced an alternative to Microsoft Surface called atracTable. This product was created on the basis of the original Atracsys development, first demonstrated in October 2008. Sony acquired the appropriate technology and introduced a 35-inch atracTable interactive desktop, superior to many Microsoft products.

Now, interactive tables have another competitor, developed by Hyundai IT, which may well be fixed in the niche of analogues of Microsoft Surface. The company presented a prototype of an interactive 70-inch touch-screen interactive table at the Korean information technology exhibition Kinex, which at first glance looks like a giant iPad.

Unfortunately, Hyundai does not yet disclose any technical details. According to the available information, the base of the table is a transformable structure, which allows, if necessary, translate the screen into a vertical plane. In this position, he is able to cope with the function of a flat-panel TV. The panel resolution is FullHD, like atracTable, it supports the mutltitouch technology and can be synchronized with the iPad. The use of an interactive panel is considered not only in the areas of education and business, but also in the entertainment industry.

Perhaps some of the Surface users will want to change it to a similar table, but with twice the large screen, but for now the prospects for the new product are rather vague. Hopefully, the company will adequately evaluate the prototype and it will have a bright future.
