Go language will not change the name: discussion is closed

14 hours ago, Google representatives transferred to the read-only branch Issue 9 , which by now has already exceeded 1000 messages. For almost a year since the official release of the Go programming language in this thread, controversy has not ceased how to rename it.

The problem is that for ten years there has been Go! whose author, Francis McCabe, explained his position on the Google forum from the very first days. He said that he had spent a lot of time and effort on its development, and the emergence of a new language under the same name would introduce obvious confusion.

On the other hand, the language of Go! never had a website, all information on it was limited to one book , and it could only be downloaded from some homepage on mac.com (which can be found only by the keywords [Francis McCabe]), and even an article on Wikipedia About this language appeared only after the release of Google Go and the controversy surrounding the name.

For the Google language, many alternatives were invented: G ++, GPL, Go-Away, G-Spot, Issue 9, etc., but to no avail. Today the discussion is closed with the following wording: “The similarity of the names is distressing. However, there are many computer products and services called Go. Over the 11 months since the release, there has been minimal confusion regarding these two languages, so we close the discussion. ”
