Scientists and inventors of Russia

Intel has launched a popular science project for anyone who is interested in the history of the development of Russian natural and exact sciences, the fate of great scientists and inventors, as well as their invaluable contribution to the world heritage.

A kind of database on domestic scientists, about the discoveries, inventions and achievements of which any educated person should know, not to mention the users of Habr.

One of the most interesting sections on the site - the facts. For example, did you know that Pirogov Nikolai Ivanovich entered the university at the age of 14, having added two years to himself, graduated at 18, at 22 became a doctor of science, and at 26 - a professor of medicine? And what about his first "scientific works" (his own arithmetic problems) Andrei Nikolayevich Kolmogorov published at the age of five in the children's hand-written journal "Spring Swallows"? Or that Pavlov Ivan Petrovich became the first Russian Nobel Prize winner, and Landau Lev Davidovich preferred to do most mathematical calculations in his mind? Well, or here at the gymnasium, where Dmitry Ivanovich Mendeleev studied, Russian literature was taught by the future author of “The Horse-Gorbunka”, poet P.P. Ershov. And who measured the electron charge remember? Maybe this is all and not the most useful information, but it is interesting to read;)
')
At the moment, the site provides information about almost 50 scientists - many surnames are known to every schoolchild, you will learn about some of them for the first time, but after reading about achievements and discoveries, you involuntarily try to remember even at least your first and last name. In principle, anyone can make and contribute to history by adding "his" scientist.

In addition to self-educational purposes, you can go to the site in order to win a laptop. To do this, you need to write an essay about key figures of Russian science, present them at an unexpected angle, argue the importance of their discoveries, tell about their scientific biography, about their work and life. There are three topics: “Forgotten Names”, “Discoveries that Changed the World” and “Other Facets of Talent” - the authors of the best essays (according to the expert commission ) will receive laptops!

Well, and the most unusual - on the main page of the project there is a ranking of scientists , in which the most significant and inspiring personality in Russian science is chosen for all times (from the era of the Russian Empire to today's Russia) according to site visitors. This is not an attempt to find out what is more important for world science — the discovery of the Vavilov-Cherenkov effect, the invention of a laser, the periodic law of chemical elements, or the study of conditioned reflexes. The project rating is a retrospective, an opportunity to evaluate and thank scientists and inventors for their achievements in science, thanks to which we live in this developing world.

There is also a photo gallery , which currently contains more than 300 images of scientists, some schemes of their inventions and just pages from workbooks.

The history of any scientist is a story about how scientific thought turns the world around. The people represented on the project changed history by the power of thought - it inspires in itself.

Enjoy reading and watching!
