While other manufacturers are developing dual-core ARM processors, Marvell goes one step ahead with a new three-core processor under the name of Armada 628. This processor is an ARM v7 MP-series SoC based on two separate 1.5 GHz cores plus a third core - 624 MHz - makes Marvell the first company to release such power to the market. While two powerful cores are pretty standard, the third core provides ultra-low power consumption. The idea behind Marvell is that when more power is not needed, the system runs on one low-power core, shutting down the other two, saving a lot of energy.
