After two weeks of consideration of the application, the free VLC player is still approved by Apple and yesterday appeared in the American App Store as a free iPad application ( link ). This player provides an absolutely simple and convenient interface for viewing files in a variety of formats. Now they can be viewed in their original quality and do not need to be recoded into the internal format of the iPad.
According to reviews of the first testers , the player works fine on all formats, but at high resolutions in some cases (for example, in the MKV format) there may be slowdowns. Apparently, there is a problem with the computing power of the iPad itself. Only Windows Video format is not supported at all (if someone needs it).
The author of the program says that the source code for VLC for iPad has already been downloaded on videolan.org and will be published there soon.
