Debian developers are now working on finalizing the development of Debian GNU / Linux 6.0, known as “Squeeze” ( Squeeze ), but they also attended to choosing the name for the next release - 7.0. A developer mailing list was announced yesterday that Debian GNU / Linux 7.0 will be named “Wheezy” ( Hripun ).
Debian releases are named after the characters in the Toy Story cartoon. For example, Squiz is a reference to small green toys appearing in all three films. Khripun is a penguin toy with a red bow tie that appeared only in the second film. Actually, this is the first character, whose name is called the release and which did not appear in all films.
The mailing list also notes that Debian 6.0 "Squeeze", which was frozen a while ago, is now "hard" frozen. New versions of packages are now accepted only in case of correction of critical errors or for some other high importance.
