LG is being sued. For the first time in the history of Russia, a criminal case was opened on such a large foreign company. Employees were accused of using pirated software. The global giants Microsoft and Adobe lost 2 million rubles because of this.
It all started with an anonymous call to the Association of Software Manufacturers with a message that pirated software is used in LG’s Russian office. Information checked and sent a warning to the Korean company. Those ignored. After that, on the threshold of the company, people appeared in uniform and searches began.
The Korean language was switched to English, the documents were carefully studied. The license was, but not everywhere. As a result, 44 system units and 17 laptops were seized. 60 employees used the pirate Photoshop, Acrobat and Illustrator at once.

The damage was estimated at 2 million rubles. A criminal case on violation of copyright and related rights was opened against LG. The process will certainly be long, experts say. Because this case is unique. Alexey Cherny: “This is the first time that a foreign company has used unlicensed software. Usually there are companies, usually Russian: small, medium and large enterprises. For foreign companies, especially technological ones, it is quite rare to use unlicensed products. ”
As reported in Adobe, now for all programs from Koreans already have a license - it was bought immediately after verification. But such a step does not relieve the company from liability. If someone is proven guilty, according to the law, they face up to 6 years in prison.
