On December 27, the 1C company announced the release of version 8.1 of the 1C: Enterprise platform running Linux OS. Two of three links can work under Linux: a cluster server and a database server, on which PostgreSQL can now be used as a DBMS. The client still works only under Windows, but its support will be added to WINE @ Etersoft 1.0.6, which is scheduled for release in February 2007.
In the Linux community, this event caused different color comments, but it seems to me that it is impossible to deny its importance: this is a very serious step, which demonstrates huge shifts in the heads of people who make such decisions. From the practical side of things, it is still too early to judge - now we need to see how it all takes off. However, the prospects for buns derived from the introduction of such a system seem to be quite bright.
