Google introduces GTalk voice and video support for Linux
Google has announced that it has implemented support for voice and video chat on the GTalk service for the Linux platform (available on Gmail, iGoogle and orkut). The XMPP and RTP protocols are used to transfer data in the chat, the video stream is transmitted in H.264 format. For the new features to work, a specially prepared plugin must be installed in the browser, which is currently available only for Ubuntu and other Debian-based distributions. RPM-packages promise to publish in the near future. The plugin supports installation in Firefox 2.0+, Opera and Google Chrome.
